About Us

IMG_6542.JPG

The Outback Air Race is a great adventure for us, and a perfect focus for fundraising efforts for RFDS.

Our name is a nod to the first Australian woman to get a pilot's licence. In 1915 Hilda Hope McMaugh, while working as a nurse with the Red Cross in France, passed her flight test.

She was not able to convert her licence to an Australian one so did not get to fly over our great continent. Hilda represents for us, the courage and tenacity it takes to learn to fly. She inspires us as a ground breaker and shows that the link between aviation and health roles has a long legacy.
